Italy Announces Findings in Brunello di Montalcino Probe

It’s been almost a year since we last addressed the brunello di Montalcino mess. Now it’s time to return to the scene of the crime as there have been a few developments in the last couple of weeks.

First, the seven wineries investigated by the Italian authorities were identified. They were: Antinori, Argiano, Banfi, Casanova di Neri, Marchese de Frescobaldi, Biondi Santi and Col d’Orcia.

Biondi Santi and Col d’Orcia were cleared of any wrongdoing.

The remaining five wineries were cited by the Italian authorities for having used unauthorized grapes to make their wines. Brunello di Montalcino is required to be 100 percent sangiovese.
