    ??? I don’t see it. Unless you mean “violaters”, which (according to Wiktionary) is an acceptable alternative…

    Mark, thanks for the reference. It must be a pretty obscure usage though. Hell, even Google asks you if you mean “violator” when you spell it that way. And if you ask, “can you spell violator violater”, it says, “do you mean ‘can you spell violator violator’ “?

    Heck, even Depeche Mode spells it “violator” and you’d think that if *they* don’t want a piece of that, well…

    It’s so “alternative” that Mirriam-Webster makes you pay to see the word.

    I thought about deleting this post, since technically there’s a source that allows it, but it still looks glaringly wrong to me and I’ll bet that the signmaker didn’t use it because he or she thinks “violater” is getting short shrift these days and needs some moral support.

    So, this post is still hanging in the balance. To paraphrase The Clash, it might stay or it might go…
